Born 1934 in Paris, France. Educated at the Ecole Superieure de Commerce, Paris. Entered the shoe industry in 1970 and joined the Charles Jourdan group. Started own label in 1981, making shoes for women inspired by traditional masculine designs. Retired in the 1996, with the shoes almost disappearing from the market until Clergerie was able to buy back his label in 2004. Honored three times as "Designer of the Year" by The Fashion Footwear Association, in 1987, '90 and '92. Entered the "Hall of Fame" of the magazine Footwear News in 2005. Hallmarks of the label include purity of design, unique heel shapes, quality and comfort. Once again retired, the company continues under the creative direction of designer Roland Mouret since July 2011.
