Launched in 2009 by longtime friends Maxandra Short and Amy Walker while they were living in Los Angeles and Kigali, Rwanda, respectively. Designed by both partners, Kora is a result of their shared visual style and commitment to sustainable economic development through "trade-not-aid". Originally featuring horn pieces, the collection has expanded to include a variety of locally sourced materials from Kenya and Ghana, all sustainable, repurposed or recycled. Kora means "work" in Kinyarwandan, Rwanda's native language.
