Born 1967, Boulogne-Billancourt, to a French father and German mother. Received a sewing machine at 15. Studied fashion at Studio Bercot, Paris. Assisted Michel Klein and then art director Marc Ascoli, working on direction for Yamamoto, Chloe and Martine Sitbon. Created a jewelry and accessories line in 1989; the following year, started a small line of knits and jersey pieces called Twen which became Isabel Marant in 1994. Etoile, second line, launched in 2000. Awards include 1998 Whirlpool "Femme en Or", Fashion, and Glamour UK 2010 Fashion Designer of the Year. Photo courtesy of Backyard Bill.
